The Story: My
Life in Pictures

I was born in a "French manner" (that would be birth without painkillers) on the great day of March 1st in 1977 somewhere between two and three in the morning. As luck would have it, March 1st is Beer-Day in Iceland, since beer was finally re-allowed on "The Frozen Rock" in 1987 on March 1st. Who'd have thought?! :) |
I was only a few weeks old when my love for white towels started and I stayed on them for as long as I could. That should explain the towel marks on my belly, or at least I hope so... But I grew and grew and even more so when I discovered the power of chocolate, a substance who to day has it's safe place in my cupboard with the microwave popcorn (fortunately they don't fight very much...). |

And so the years passed without worry with white towels and chocolate. But as my height increased and my spirits grew I began to see that something was missing. Dolls entered my life and within a few years I had them all: white ones, black ones, small ones, big ones, ones you could paint, ones you could dress up in fancy clothes and ones with hair you could cut, and burn, and.... |
About the age of eight strange feelings began to matriculate. That was when I started playing with my uncles Matchbox cars. And as if that wasn't strange enough, I also discovered Lego and for many years there after wished most of all for "techno - Lego" on my birthday. Unfortunately, no one seemed to recognize my longings so I instead cycled into our house (and missed the door. It was an accident.). |

There don't seem to be any pictures of me playing with cars or Lego for some strange reasons (did my parents feel ashamed? - nah, they probably just didn't have any films.) Enough on that. I grew and grew much faster then most others (all the chocolate's fault) and had at the age of 13 reached my full height. By then my blonde instincts had begun to develop and I begun traveling abroad to lighten my hair color (dyeing was not very fashionable at that time). |
I went to high school and finished it in two years instead of three and from there I went to junior-college where I spent four years hardly doing anything but studying for tests and babysitting my three half-brothers (those darlings!). Of course I continued to broaden my social horizon and met a whole bunch of new people that I still stay in touch with and I also picked up a boyfriend (whom I have now married! - sorry guys ;). |
|
|
The four years flew by although I tried to slow them down by going to England and devouring some English culture. But the inevitable was inevitable and in the spring of 1996 when I was 19 years old the authorities of my college decided it was time to let me go. I graduated from my "physics line" dux of my year and so got the rights to go to university. But before I knew it, some strange longings got a hold of me again and all of a sudden I had entered The University of Iceland as an undergraduate in Electrical and Computer Engineering... |
|
At the University of Iceland I met some more fun people! Where do all these fun people come from?!?! :) Anyway - Electrical Engineering turned out to be a lot of fun, once the boring math and physics stuff was over and done with - and the weekly "Friday Ultra Science Trip to A Company that Enjoyed Serving Us Free Food and Beer" (FUSTACESUFFB - did I just say that?!?!)" got to be a nice little habit... ;) Still, I made it through undergrad relatively unharmed except for my HAIR! But you may be relieved to know that the length of my hair and the remaining years of undergrad were linearly linked... Anyway - I graduated from the University of Iceland with honors and, being the lazy brat that I am, felt it was time to take a break from school... |

...and started working for Iceland Telecom. They're the company that basically runs the Icelandic telephone network (for all the 280.000 souls that occupy that cold rock in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean!). The job was fun and I gained some insight into how things are done in the Telephone industry (in short: "Ericsson"... ;) Still, while working diligently, I somehow managed to send out some University applications to the USA and ... |

...GET MARRIED!!! Finnur and I made the decision to get married on a Thursday (Feb 24th 2000) and then told everyone on Friday (Feb 25th) that we'd be getting married the following Friday (March 3rd)!! It was so much fun and I highly recommend it, especially it gets the husband highly involved in the process! ;) For those who are interested... March 3rd was our 6th year "met-for-the-first-time" anniversary (documented by email)... and we've been "together" ever since the summer of 1994 :)

Then in September of the year 2000 we set out for the biggest
adventure so far - California!!! Yes, the wonderful Stanford
University admitted yours truly to their beautiful geek asylum and
that's where we (Finnur and I) are now! Remarkably, Stanford
also has some fun people!!
We're keeping an Icelandic Diary on the web for the people at home... it has lots of pictures! :) |
