Traveling
December 15th 2001 (HMG) - [Put online December 16th 2001]
At 5am, Augusto (who started working nights and sleeping days some time ago) showed up to drive us to San Francisco International Airport.
Finnur and Augusto all ready to go!
Thanks for the ride Augusto! :)
After checking in, we went through the security checkpoint. I breezed through but
Finnur got beeped at for having a belt buckle and some metal material in his sneakers.
He also had a laptop which got special attention, and here is is on the far right having it checked.
I should also mention that the army guy on the right had a machine gun...
Here is our Northwest plane - cute little thing!
And here we have the Northwest stewards distributing a nice breakfast
that consisted of Honey Nut Cheerios, a bagle and a banana.
On the way to Minneapolis we flew by this terrain, which is actually
REALLY FLAT and when I looked at it it looked exceedingly SQUARED,
but the camera seems to have gotten it confused to something from Star Wars!
In Minneapolis International Airport, we went to Chili's Too with Logi.
The food was excellent - and the cutlery was interesting. A real fork but
a plastic knife... Cutting a cheesesteak all of a sudden became tricky!
Here is Logi on the phone to a really nice girl he recently met... :)
After we'd filled our stomachs, Finnur headed for the
"Service Center" where he could plug in his computer for power.
Unfortunately he didn't have a modem (or a dial-up-number to call)
so we couldn't go online. I SOOO wanted to "blog" there!
Instead he did a little work while Logi and I went shopping...
We then boarded the Icelandair plane, and 6 hours later it was almost time
to land. By that time we were both a little tired...
... but we managed to survive the passport control...
(note the "icicle" in the ceiling)
... the long walk up the landwalk...
...buy candy in the duty free, collect our luggage, ...
... find Finnur's parents among the people behind the glass wall and
get through customs (even if our bags got x-rayed).
Here Finnur is with his mom, Anna. The temperature outside (at 8 am
with no sunlight) was 9°C (48°F) and there was a slight drizzle.
Apparently Iceland was one of the warmest places in Europe that day...
Like we say... that name is all PR!
At 8:30am we arrived in Mosfellsbær at last and went pretty much
straight to bed! But only for about three hours. Then it was time
to wake up and start meeting the families. More about that later.
